Online personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His release was confirmed in a video circulating online, which shows VDM leaving EFCC custody alongside his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
This development comes days after the EFCC confirmed that the social media activist would be granted freedom upon meeting his bail conditions.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale had earlier told BBC News Pidgin that VDM would be released once those conditions were fulfilled, and that his case would proceed to court.
“He was arrested to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale said.
VDM was taken into custody by EFCC operatives in Abuja, following multiple petitions accusing him of misconduct.
His arrest has sparked backlash online, with many Nigerians accusing the EFCC of targeting outspoken critics.
