Political Witch-Hunt? Adeyanju Slams Malami’s ‘Crocodile Tears,’ Urges EFCC To Do Its Job

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) must proceed with its investigation and possible prosecution of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami over alleged corruption.

He said Malami’s claims of political witch-hunt must not truncate the process.

Adeyanju stated this in a Facebook post while reacting to a Monday statement issued by the ex-AGF’s Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Doka.

In the statement, Malami accused the EFCC of subjecting him to what he described as a politically motivated probe, alleging that the investigation was triggered by his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and driven by personal vendetta rather than law enforcement considerations.

However, Adeyanju said Malami was shedding “crocodile tears”.

He said, “The comments of the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, alleging that the EFCC is on a political vendetta and therefore lacks the competence to investigate him is unfortunate.

“The EFCC should proceed without hesitation to investigate Mr. Malami, particularly in relation to his stewardship while in office of all issues surrounding the Abacha loot.

“Public office is a trust, and all past and present public officials must be prepared to give a full account of how that trust was exercised. Malami showed no restraint while in government and wielded state power against everyone including members of the opposition. Having subjected others to prosecution, he cannot now escape from the same process.”
