After the fun little exercise and diversion that was the UEFA Conference League semifinal, things get very real, very quickly this weekend as we travel north of the wall, all the way to Newcastle, where the locals await in an epic clash of top-five proportions.
Both teams have Champions League football in mind for next season; but it’s not necessarily likely that both will qualify. The winner of this game however will have practically one leg in it.
It’s a top-five six-pointer and the drama’s just beginning.
Chelsea’s injury situation remains almost entirely unchanged, with Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku sidelined. Enzo Maresca teased an impending return for Marc Guiu midweek (which didn’t happen), but otherwise it’s the same as it’s been for the last couple weeks — which is not a bad thing since we’ve been doing decently in this regard, for a change.
Most of the first-team got a full week’s rest with the backups and Academy kids taking care of business against Djurgården.
