Gunmen Attack Kogi Church, Kill Pastor And Abduct Senior Pastor, Worshippers

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed Moses Wada, an assistant pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Anyigba, and abducted the church’s presiding pastor, his wife, and several others along the Enugu–Kogi highway.

The attack occurred on Saturday, December 7, 2025, as the church delegation was returning to Anyigba after attending a church programme in Nsukka, Enugu State.

According to eyewitnesses and family sources, the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle carrying the group. Moses Wada, an accountant with the Kogi State Agricultural Development Project (ADP) who had just successfully defended his Master’s thesis in Accounting at Kogi State University, Anyigba, was hit and died instantly.

The senior pastor, his wife, and at least two other church members were forcibly taken into the bush by the attackers.A close associate, Justice Friday, confirmed the incident in a heartfelt Facebook tribute on Tuesday.

“Moses was a humble man, a loving husband and father, and a passionate advocate for good governance,” he wrote.

“Kogi East Socio-political and Economic Forum will miss your contributions, support, and passion… We pray that your soul finds contentment in the achievements of your life and rejoice in the embrace of your Creator.”

Friends, colleagues, and neighbours have flooded social media with tributes, describing the killing as a “moral collapse and human tragedy.”

As of Tuesday evening, no contact had been established with the kidnappers, and security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident or rescue efforts.

The attack has heightened fears over the deteriorating security situation along the Enugu–Kogi corridor, which has recorded multiple kidnappings and armed robberies in recent months.
