Three family members, including the father, mother, and their young child, have been confirmed dead in an accident in Lagos State.
Confirming the road crash, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the accident occurred at Secretariat, inward Otedola Bridge, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Wednesday.
LASTMA disclosed that the accident instantly claimed the lives of three family members, while two others sustained critical injuries.
The agency said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred after a heavily loaded truck travelling at excessive speed struck a vehicle from the rear.
According to the agency, this caused the vehicle to lose control and collided with two moving vehicles, while the truck driver absconded immediately from the scene .
LASTMA disclosed that its operatives promptly arrived at the scene to rescue survivors and recover the deceased.
It added that two critically injured victims trapped within the wreckage were extricated and conveyed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for urgent medical attention.
“The three deceased family members, tragically trapped together, were respectfully recovered and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for immediate evacuation,” the agency stated.
