Writing on Truth Social, Trump said the strike “does not advance Israel or America’s goals,” but added that “eliminating Hamas, who have profited off the misery of those living in Gaza, is a worthy goal.” He went on to argue that the attack could paradoxically create an “opportunity for PEACE.”
Trump revealed he had been alerted by the US military shortly before the strike in Doha. According to the president, he instructed US special envoy Steve Witkoff to notify Qatari authorities, but the warning “unfortunately [came] too late to stop the attack.” Stressing that the decision lay with Jerusalem, Trump said: “This [strike] was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was not a decision made by me.”
At the same time, Trump moved to reassure Qatar, a key mediator in ceasefire negotiations, of Washington’s support. He praised the Gulf state for “working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker peace,” and emphasized: “I view Qatar as a strong ally and friend of the US, and feel very badly about the location of the attack.”
The president added that he had spoken directly with both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Qatar’s emir and prime minister following the strike. Trump said Netanyahu had reiterated his willingness to pursue peace, while he thanked Qatari leaders for their “support and friendship to our country.”
“I assured them that such a thing will not happen again on their soil,” Trump stated, noting he had directed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to finalize a defense cooperation agreement with Doha.
Trump also reiterated his call for an immediate end to the conflict and the release of all remaining hostages. “I want to see peace, and I want to see it NOW,” he wrote.
