BREAKING NEWS: APC Welcomes Rivers Governor Fubara, Hands Over Official Party Membership Card
The All Progressives Congress, (APC), has officially received Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, into the party, marking a major realignment in the state’s political landscape.
The APC delegation, led by the state Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, visited the governor at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday.
During the brief ceremony, Fubara completed the APC membership form and other documentation before being issued his party slip and membership card.
Fubara recently resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, explaining that his move to the APC was aimed at aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking during the reception, Okocha said he was directed by the APC National Chairman to officially receive the governor, describing the assignment as an honour.
“I was called up by the Chairman of our great party and given the mandate to visit you and present your membership card as a prelude to the official reception,” Okocha said. He congratulated the governor for joining the APC, noting that Fubara’s reasons for defecting were reassuring.
He pledged the party’s full support for the governor, saying: “We welcome you wholeheartedly and assure you that we will be at your beck and call. This offers us a new opportunity to strengthen our relationship here in Rivers State.”
In his response, Governor Fubara said aligning Rivers State with the government at the centre was necessary for development, adding that the state cannot afford to operate in isolation.
He explained that his defection was part of efforts to ensure a smooth re-election for President Tinubu in 2027 and to sustain political stability in the state.
“So, I took this decision as my return favour, my own way of clearing the path to ensure that His Excellency’s re-election in 2027 will be easy and smooth in this state,” he said.
Fubara pledged to consolidate the APC’s structure in Rivers State, assuring the party leadership of his total commitment.
“We will do everything to keep APC as the leading progressive party in Rivers State. From this moment, ensuring the welfare and needs of the party becomes my responsibility,” he said.
The governor vowed to strengthen grassroots mobilisation for the APC, stating that Rivers State would deliver massively for Tinubu in the next general elections.
