[BREAKING] Lawal: Nigerians Will Support Efforts to Thwart Any Criminal Interference in the 2027 Election
According to a report by the Punch on Monday, October 27, 2025, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has launched a scathing criticism of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, characterizing the party as a sanctuary for individuals evading anti-corruption authorities. Lawal, who now serves as National Vice Chairman of the opposition African Democratic Congress, made these remarks during a party stakeholders’ meeting in Yola, Adamawa State.
The former government official accused the APC of systematic election manipulation, claiming the party’s primary strategy involved predetermining electoral outcomes. He issued a strong warning about opposition resistance to such practices, declaring that “Nigerians will back us to frustrate any criminal manipulation of the 2027 election results.”
Lawal expressed confidence in his party’s growing appeal, suggesting that more patriots would join the ADC as both the APC and Peoples Democratic Party continue to lose credibility. However, he emphasized that the ADC would maintain strict membership standards to prevent infiltration by politicians carrying what he described as corrupt attitudes from their previous parties.
The political gathering also served as a platform for the ADC to welcome new members, including former Kogi State governorship candidate Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, who formally defected from the Action Alliance. Braimoh explained that his decision was motivated by the ADC’s potential to bring genuine change to Kogi State’s leadership landscape.
ADC leaders from both Adamawa and Kogi states expressed optimism about their electoral prospects, urging citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards as essential tools for political change. The developments signal ongoing political realignments in Nigeria as opposition parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
