In an interview with Symfoni TV, Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated that former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo suspended him as SGF without first obtaining the approval of Muhammadu Buhari.
Lawal said Buhari was ill and did not go to office on the day he was suspended as SGF. He said Buhari became angry when he found out about the suspension. He said Buhari angrily asked who had suspended his SGF without his permission.
Lawal added that Buhari later decided not to reverse the suspension because doing so would have created a bigger crisis. He said Buhari also knew that he was not personally troubled by the suspension.
In Lawal’s words: “It was Osinbajo that took the decision without recourse to the president. Buhari was sick that day, he did not come to office. Buahri was furious when he found out, he said ‘Who suspended my SGF without my permission’. The process of redressing that would have been more calamitous than if he had just left it and he knew that I was not bothered anyway”
