According to a report by The Nation on Sunday 26 July 2026, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has thrown its weight behind the Rainbow Coalition spearheaded by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while warning individuals allegedly posing as party executives to stop misleading the public.
The declaration was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre LGA, where party leaders insisted they remained the legitimate executives of the ADC in the area; They also affirmed their loyalty to the national faction led by Ibe Kachikwu pending the Supreme Court’s decision on the party’s leadership dispute.
Speaking at the meeting, the ADC Secretary in Ikwerre LGA, Samuel Chuku, acknowledged the ongoing leadership crisis within the party but said members in the council had resolved to follow Kachikwu’s leadership and work closely with Wike’s Rainbow Coalition.
He accused some individuals of falsely claiming to be ADC executives in Ikwerre and Rivers State, describing them as outsiders attempting to take control of a structure they did not build; Chuku maintained that the recognised party leadership extends from the state level to the ward level and urged those outside the Kachikwu faction to stop presenting themselves as officials of the party.
According to him, the party had directed its members to align with the Rainbow Coalition, adding that they were committed to supporting the coalition’s activities ahead of the 2027 general election while awaiting the Supreme Court’s verdict on the national leadership tussle.
Also addressing the gathering, the ADC Legal Adviser in Ikwerre LGA, Promise Ezinwuo, said the meeting unanimously endorsed Wike’s Rainbow Coalition; He argued that dedicated party members who nurtured the ADC over the years would not allow newcomers to hijack its structure.
Ezinwuo reaffirmed that his group remained the authentic leadership of the ADC in Ikwerre and insisted that any other individuals claiming to lead the party in the area were not recognised by the faction.
He also called on security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that peace and order are maintained in Ikwerre Local Government amid the ongoing leadership disagreement within the ADC.
