Nigerian Policemen K!ll 400-Level University Student During Stop-And-Search In Benue

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly k!lled a 400-level student of Kwararafa University, identified as Ahenjir Emmanuella during a stop-and-search operation in Benue State.

The final student died after officers of the Nigerian police allegedly opened fire on a vehicle during a stop-and-search operation at Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi, Benue State.

Popular human rights activist privy to the incident, Ukan Kurugh, said the victim was in the vehicle when officers attached to the Makurdi E Division discharged their weapons, with a bullet fatally striking her.

Kurugh described the k!lling as “another unacceptable loss of innocent life” and demanded justice for the slain student.

Efforts made by SaharaReporters to get the reaction of Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, for comments did not succeed. She has not responded to text message requesting her comment at the time of filing this report.

Last week, SaharaReporters had also reported that a woman had accused officers of the Nigeria Mobile Police (MOPOL) of brutally assaulting her Ghanaian-German husband during a stop-and-search operation along the boundary road between Edo State and Agbor, Delta State.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the distraught woman recounted the traumatic incident, stating that her husband was visiting Nigeria for the first time to celebrate with her family in their hometown.

Meanwhile, the couple was travelling back to Lagos with other family members when the alleged abuse occurred.

“We were on our way back to Lagos in a family car when we were stopped by policemen — MOPOL officers,”
she said in the video.

“They said it was a stop-and-search operation. They checked our luggage thoroughly and found nothing incriminating.”

However, she explained that during the search, officers found a piece of clothing resembling military camouflage in her husband’s bag, which they claimed was an army uniform.
