Tension In Ondo Community As Two-Month-Old Baby Mysteriously Disappears

Tension has enveloped Ode-Irele, the headquarters of Irele Local Government Area in Ondo State, after the mysterious disappearance of a two-month-old baby.

The incident, which occurred in the Gbeleju area of the community on Monday, May 12, 2025, has thrown the entire area into serious tension after the baby’s father raised an alarm early in the day over the whereabouts of his two-month-old baby boy.

The matter, which is currently being handled by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, comes just eight days after a young girl was allegedly murdered by her landlord’s son in the same community.

According to a source close to the Security Network in Ode-Irele, the complaint about the incident was lodged at their office by the baby’s father at about 10:00 p.m. on Monday.

The source added that shortly after the complaint was made, officials of the Amotekun Corps swung into action, during which the baby’s net, where he had been laid, was brought to the Corps’ office.

He further stated that the baby’s mother and father were also invited for interrogation.

The development later sparked minor arguments between the baby’s family and Amotekun operatives in the area, as a large crowd, mainly Okada riders and other concerned residents besieged the office, demanding the release of the baby’s parents.

Some residents of the street said that the family is currently in an undisclosed white-garment church in the community, praying fervently for the safe return of their two-month-old baby.

The Coordinator of Amotekun in Irele Local Government, Mr. Joseph Ebisanmi, who confirmed the incident said that although he is currently in Akure, the Ondo State capital, attending to an official state assignment, investigations into the matter have already begun.

He explained that operatives of the Security Network had commenced investigations, and that the baby’s father and mother, who were earlier invited for interrogation, had been released.

On the rumour circulating on social media that the father had confessed to knowing the whereabouts of the baby boy, the Amotekun boss described it as untrue.

He promised that the Security Network in the area, under his leadership, would get to the root of the matter.
