Oshiomhole Introduced Me to Politics, Took Me to Tinubu

Actor and politician, Desmond Elliot, has recounted his journey into politics.

He revealed that former Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole introduced him to the world of politics, specifically taking him to meet President Bola Tinubu.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Desmond Elliot shared, “One day, Oshiomhole took me to Asiwaju and said, ‘This is my son, and he’s interested in politics.’ Asiwaju looked at me and said he knew me already and liked me it was still a surprise to me.”

Desmond also reflected on his experience running against fellow actor Olumide Oworu in the 2023 elections.

He clarified that he had no hard feelings toward Olumide but felt disappointed by some senior colleagues who supported his opponent.

“I wasn’t upset with him,” he said. “I was hurt by the veterans who endorsed him.”

Desmond also revealed a terrifying encounter during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, where he narrowly escaped an attack by unknown assailants.

The protests sought the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, over accusations of extrajudicial killings and extortion.

During the #EndSARS demonstrations, Desmond Elliot, serving as a lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, faced criticism after controversially referring to Nigerian youths as “children” during a plenary session.
