NNL: Akwa United get government directives to push for NPFL promotion

Nigeria National League, NNL, side Akwa United has received a stern warning from the Akwa Ibom State government to ensure they secure promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, next season.

The state’s Commissioner for Sport, Elder Paul Bassey, expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparation, noting the quality, energy, intensity and commitment displayed during training.

“I am impressed with the quality displayed in training today, The energy, intensity, and commitment are good,” Bassey stated during his visit to the team.

“Remember, Akwa United is not a second division club. You must carry yourselves with that in mind and push for promotion.”

Akwa United was relegated to the NNL in the 2024-2025 NPFL season, finishing 18th in the league table.

The Promise Keepers started their closed camping exercise in Eket this week ahead of the new season, which starts on November 8.

The Uyo club will face Solution FC in their opening fixture.
