2026 WCQ: Calm down – Nigerian fans warn Nwabali as Super Eagles arrive Uyo
Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has been asked to “calm down” by fans who welcomed the team to Uyo, where they will clash with Benin Republic on Tuesday.
Nwabali’s performances for the Nigerian team has come under serious criticisms lately.
In a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo last month, the Chippa United stopper picked up a yellow card and almost got sent off for barging into an opponent.
Last week, with the Eagles leading 2-0 comfortably in Lesotho, Nwabali’s poor attempt to claim the ball allowed the Crocodiles pull one back.
The hosts almost snatched a draw with the last kick after another Nwabali error, but the ball trickled past the post narrowly.
Amid calls for him to be dropped ahead of the final qualifier against Benin, a clip has emerged of supporters at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, shouting at Nwabali, asking him to “calm down”.
The goalkeeper responded with a brief wave and headed into the team bus.
